Angelina Jolie has joined Instagram, and broke a long-standing record in the process.

The actress and philanthropist can now be found @angelinajolie, and being one of the most famous women on the planet reaps its benefits too; the account became the quickest to reach the threshold of 1 million followers in the platform.

It took Angelina just three hours to gain 2.1 million followers, which bests the previous record set by Jennifer Aniston, who quite literally broke Instagram when she accumulated 1 million followers in 5 hours in 2019.

Using her first post on the platform to highlight her work as a Special Envoy to the UN, Angelina shared a letter from an anonymous Afghan Girl sharing her plight as the Taliban once again try to take control of the country.

Pledging to support Afghan refugees fleeing the crisis, Angelina wrote: “Like others who are committed, I will not turn away. I will continue to look for ways to help. And I hope you’ll join me.”

The current followers tally for the account stands at 5.1 million, after being active for less than 24 hours.

There is no denying that Angie is a strong woman who uses her platform to inspire change. And when ET spoke with the Oscar winner back in May, ahead of the release of her film Those Who Wish Me Dead, she opened up about going through a period in her own personal life where she felt broken and how she channeled that energy into her role to make her better.

“We all have times in our lives where we feel broken. And I was in a period like that. My share of things that have made me feel, um, you know, hard to speak too much about it but just overwhelmed or broken. To have an opportunity, I feel very lucky, I wish all women could have this at times in their lives, all people. When you feel like you just want to kind of hide under the covers or you’re not sure what you’ve got left in you, I would encourage anybody to go somewhere, see what you got in you, put yourself against the elements or try something you’ve never tried and kind of try to rediscover that that strength within.”
