Amy Winehouse first attempted suicide when she was 10-years-old, according to a new book

The book, Amy Winehouse: The Untold Story, claims the singer tried to kill herself less than a year after her dad Mitch Winehouse left her mother Janis for another woman known as “daddy’s work wife”. Author Chloe Govan reveals that the star was so devastated by her parents’ separation that she fell into a spiral of self-harming and took an overdose of pills. The friend who reportedly found her said: “By ten she’d had her first spliff and, in some people’s eyes, was already on a road to ruin. I found Amy clutching her stomach in agony. She’d started foaming at the mouth and her eyes were rolling. She’d overdosed on pills because she didn’t want to live. She told me she’d wanted to go for a long sleep.” The book also suggests that Winehouse was infatuated with the infamous ’27 Club’, and wanted to be immortalized like Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Alex Foden, the hairdresser responsible for Winehouse’s iconic beehive, said that the singer would often talk about dying young. “Amy always told me she thought she’d die young and that she knew she’d be a member of the 27 Club. I think she almost needed to die a legend,” he said.  Meanwhile, Camden Council have given the go-ahead to the plans to install an Amy Winehouse statue in the borough. Local councilors approved artist Scott Easton’s sculpture last week. The statue will now be installed at a balcony at Camden’s Roundhouse venue this September.
