Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives! New Netflix Trailer Shows Bizarre Collapse of Famed NYC Vegan Restaurant
If you’ve been binging true crime docs on Netflix like The Tinder Swindler or Tiger King 2 and you’re itching for more, fear not. Netflix just released a trailer for their upcoming documentary series, Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives. The limited series is directed and produced by Chris Smith, who also brought us Tiger King and Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, so you know it’ll be good.
The four-part series is set to premiere on March 16th and follows the real story of Sarma Melngailis, an all-star in the vegan community and owner of famous New York City raw vegan restaurant, Raw Food and Wine.
The restaurant was highly successful and frequented by celebrities like Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson. In the trailer, there are numerous interviews with former restaurant staff who, at first, have nothing but good things to say about working with Sarma, but it all comes tumbling down when she falls in love and quickly ties the knot with a man she met online, Anthony Strangis. He immediately promised to make all of her dreams come true and even said he would make her and her Pitbull dog immortal.
The series will show the relationship between Sarma and Anthony and their crimes, including stealing nearly $2 million from the restaurant and staff, until a final facedown with police at a Domino’s Pizza (before they had any vegan options).
But was all of this new husband, Anthony Strangis’ doing? Or was it just as much Sarma’s plan? Find out in less than a month when this strange and shockingly true documentary premiers.
