A postwoman refused to deliver to a couple’s house in Buckinghamshire because their hanging baskets are ‘too big’.

Peter and Hazel Kelly, from Woburn Sands, didn’t receive any mail for two weeks because the postwoman said it hurt her back to duck under the flower filled display.

75-year-old Peter is currently undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and says gardening helps him get through his treatment.

Indeed, the couple have received nothing but praise for the two lavish baskets full of trailing begonias and geranium.

After thinking it strange that they hadn’t received any post for a fortnight, the reason why only became clear when Peter asked the postwoman in question.

She told him she was no longer delivering to his home because avoiding the flower display hurt her back.

Peter and Hazel have been left baffled by the explanation, claiming that no one else, including other postmen and women, have ever had a problem with their annual flowery decorations, which they have been doing for 30 years.

After the couple’s story was made public Royal Mail sent a Health and Safety investigator to the cottage and deliveries have now been resumed.
