A beaver bite may initially sound strange as a source of danger, but the number of beavers around the Danube has increased significantly in the last ten years, so it is not unusual. RTL News reported that a woman walking her dog in the day’s heat was knee-deep in the Danube on Népsziget in Budapest.

While bathing, something hit her first, and then she felt a sharp pain in her leg. It later turned out that a beaver had bitten her. Dávid Nagy, the MKKP’s municipal representative, said that the woman immediately ran out of the water, where she noticed the beaver, and immediately sought medical help. Since then, she has had to return daily for treatments and vaccinations.

“The lady is currently going for vaccinations (…), she is receiving various treatments, it is a slightly, moderately painful, by no means pleasant experience,” said David Nagy.

According to locals who were interviewed about the incident, beavers mainly appear at dusk and are becoming more common. According to the experts, since the big flood in 2013, the number of beavers around the Danube has increased significantly. The woman shared her story on social media and stressed that she did not blame the beaver as she had entered the animal’s habitat. However, several opinions say that it would be worth putting up warning signs in the area to avoid similar accidents.
