Over the years Gordon Ramsay has hosted and produced a variety of TV shows that have had massive audiences around the world. Including Unchartered which is out now, here are just a few of the best and that are found on many streaming platforms.
Boiling Point (1999)
The first TV show Ramsay starred in was UK documentary series Boiling Point which followed him as he opened his very first restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. This was followed up in 2000, with Beyond Boiling Point.
Hell’s Kitchen (2004)
Starting in the UK the series was taken up in the US shortly afterwards and shows us aspiring chefs competing in a series of challenges and food services, with Ramsay as head chef, volatile critic and often shouting – pushing contestants to their limits. Contestants are eliminated one by one until the winner is found, who then is offered a head chef position at a top restaurant.
The F Word (2005 – 2010)
This gives us cooking, celebrity interviews, and food challenges. With its interaction, innovative format and lively atmosphere, the show is a different from traditional cooking shows, with Ramsay preparing multi-course meals, holding celebrity interviews, and competitive cooking by families to win cash prizes. It was filming this show when Ramsay nearly died as he slipped off the side of a cliff into icy water but was pulled out of the water to safety by his crew.
Kitchen Nightmares (2004 to 2014)
The most popular fan favourite show sees Ramsay traveling the UK and US to visit failing restaurants. With his typical hard approach and high standards, he confronts the issues. Initially undercover and spotting the problems and giving solutions to turn the restaurants around. The show was long running in both the US and the UK. With owners who cannot seem to get the basics of cooking or cleaning Ramsay was bound to get annoyed, his harsh, confrontational style and no-nonsense approach with a hot temper led to dramatic transformations, and very funny watchable TV.
MasterChef and MasterChef Junior (2010 onwards)
MasterChef began in the US in 2010 with cooks battling to win the title of MasterChef, along with a cash prize and a cookbook deal. Ramsay is both judge and mentor, alongside other celebrity chef judges. The success of MasterChef led to MasterChef Junior in 2013, with young aspiring chefs aged 8 to 13 and where we saw a softer side to Ramsay.
Hotel Hell (2012)
Similar to Kitchen Nightmares, this time Ramsay visits struggling hotels, motels, and bed-and-breakfasts, looking at their cleanliness, food, and day to day operations with a keen eye and giving harsh criticism to help improve their standards. It is a binge worthy watch just for some of the terrible management that Ramsay spots on his visits.
Gordon Behind Bars (2012)
An experiment where Ramsay takes his cooking expertise into a maximum-security prison to teach inmates how to cook and run a successful catering business. He faces a tough battle, and it is a very though provoking watch.
Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch (2015 – 2019)
This British CBBC children’s show follows the Ramsay family during their summer holidays in places like Los Angeles, Italy, London, and Cornwall, with Matilda ‘Tilly’ Ramsay cooking meals to take out or have at home.
24 Hours to Hell and Back (2018)
A show against the clock to revamp struggling restaurants in one day. Again, Ramsay visits failing restaurants, but this time has only 24 hours to turn them around so expect even more pressure and temper. He travels in a mobile kitchen nicknamed Hell on Wheels, filled with a team of experts and hidden cameras.
Gordon, Gino, and Fred: Road Trip (2018 to 2023)
Joining fellow chefs Gino D’Acampo and Fred Sirieix, the three friends go on a foodie adventure across Europe, exploring local cuisine and culture and having a lot of laughs.
Next Level Chef (2022)
A cooking competition with contestants cooking in a modern three-story kitchen, with each floor representing a different level of expertise.
Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars (2023 to current)
Aspiring business contestants compete in food and drink industry challenges to be named the next great food star. The winner gets 250,000 dollars and an investment from Ramsay in their business. This year we see Food Stars return for Season 2, challenging a new team of contestants to run a food business, completely from marketing, new products, and brand image.
Uncharted (2019 to current)
Now in its fourth Season, National Geographics Unchartered follows Ramsay as he journeys to some of the most incredible and remote parts of the world in search of food inspiration, culture, and adventure. His travels take him through rainforests, up mountains, in heat or cold extremes, even cooking for monks, and to places such as Peru, Morocco, Hawaii and New Zealand, Texas, Iceland and Mexico. This year season 4 began in the Florida Keys, and other episodes taking him to Jordan’s diverse landscapes, Alaska, and Hawaii. A stunning visual and foodie feast.
